“The day I read your post about the lecturer sleeping with any student at all for grades, I cried. I am a third-class degree holder from one of the public universities in Ghana, and I am very proud to hold the third-class degree with all of my dignity intact. We were pioneers of the program which was introduced that very year in the department. We had no literature to refer on, no predecessors, no department of its own, no Dean and even lecturers were outsourced from other public universities.

We sometimes had to travel to other universities for literature on the program it was one hell of life back on campus. Amidst all these troubles, these lecturers would want to sleep with you for no reason at all. Dave, and most of them were colleague lecturers from other universities. As I watched them siphon anything in skirt, it got to my turn. The lecturer started by saying ‘I looked a lot like his wife’ and would find a way to ask the course rep to bring me to his office after lectures, and I refused on several occasions.

Dave, this is a man who designed our program and was also the Head of Finance in the university. The man coupled with his other colleagues gave me D’s throughout their courses in the four-year program, and some of them were handling about two courses each semester for four academic years and I happened to have inquired from them why I was having D’s throughout their course. They’d just say “YOU ARE NOT A KID. YOU SHOULD KNOW WHAT TO DO”

None of them ever showed me any paper of mine. Never did I have the chance to score an E in a course so I could resist. And if I happen to inquire about my result, the lecturer that designed the program would say to me “YOU CAN NEVER WIN A LAWSUIT AGAINST A UNIVERSITY. IT HAS NEVER HAPPENED AND YOU WON’T BE THE FIRST TO WIN. THIS UNIVERSITY IS UNDER OUR CONTROL. ANYONE YOU SPEAK TO WILL INFORM US.

Dave, I cried throughout the four-year program. Studying was no more pleasant to me. It got to a point I wanted to quit school but my mum is a single mum of six, she couldn’t afford and did not deserve that. I had two A’s in a liberal study course which was offered every semester by other departments to add up to our program. My lecturer who was a woman that time was queried by those gang of lecturers at my department as to why I’d get two straight A’s in her course. I completed the program six years ago. I never went for my graduation. It was later on that I went and took my third-class degree with all of my dignity.

I found myself a job and did a side hustle. Fast forward to three years later, my school and its finance department which was led by my lecturer who designed my program were sent to court over embezzlement of funds, and some misappropriation of public funds. He was later banned from working in any government owned entity and the disgrace attached to it was something else. He was consistently in the news for two years.

Even though his dismissal doesn’t change the class on my certificate, I just want to say that whatever you do never go unaccounted for. You may be able to twist moral values, even Bible principles and every human – just to have your way with everything. But you cannot defeat God. And just as he said to me “NO STUDENT HAS EVER WON AGAINST THE UNIVERSITY IN LAWSUIT” so has no EVIL GATE KEEPER EVER WON AGAINST GOD.

No matter who we are, the nemesis of whatever we do catches up with us eventually, and sometimes in ways we have no or very little control over. These lecturers shouldn’t be deceived that they would be getting away with what they’re doing. The devil just want to get them to a place where the disgrace will be impactful.”
